Background story

GLS Croatia is a member of the General Logistics Systems B.V., Amsterdam (GLS) concern, which provides a network coverage of 41 European states and is also present in eight U.S. states and Canada. GLS Croatia has been one of the leading delivery companies in Croatia since 2013.

With sustainability as one of their core values, our client provides reliable, high-quality parcel services complemented by logistics and express services. They provide equally excellent service to their B2B customers, ensuring a seamless working experience for their partners.

Challenge

Previously, our client didn’t have an official GLS Magento extension, meaning that their B2B customers who opted for their services needed to integrate their web shops with the GLS shipping system on their own or manually create labels and tracking numbers. With that in mind, our client came to us for assistance with developing GLS Magento Shipping Extension tailored for Eastern European countries.

Our task was to develop the extension to augment Magento 2 stores with a dynamic and versatile shipping solution, introducing two distinct options: “Delivery to Address” and “Delivery to Parcel Location.”

Projects core functionalities

One of the features, the Delivery to the Address option, facilitates convenient delivery to the customer’s doorstep. Here, we created an automatic shipping label for a hassle-free shipping process.

The second feature, the Delivery to Parcel Location shipping option, allows customers to choose an alternate delivery option through an interactive map during checkout. We enabled seamless integration for selecting parcel shop locations for delivery. This option enhances customer satisfaction, offering them more flexibility and control of the delivery process.

An Interactive Parcel map integration feature comes with an interactive map on the checkout page. Customers can conveniently choose a parcel shop location for delivery, view the address of the selected delivery location, and modify or even remove it if necessary.

The Magento GLS Shipping Extension also provides Effortless Labeling and Tracking by simplifying workflow with automated shipping label creation and tracking processes. The administrator can create shipping labels and tracking numbers on the shipment page to give customers real-time visibility into their shipments. Lastly, the GLS Shipping Extension integrates the Cash on Delivery (COD) payment method support, the preferred payment method for many buyers in eCommerce. Upon selecting the COD payment option during checkout, the extension automatically activates GLS COD services.

Results

The GLS Shipping Extension empowers the shipping capabilities of Magento 2 stores with numerous shipping methods for the customers and simplified shipping label creation and tracking processes for merchants. With manual shipping labels and tracking number generation out of the window, merchants can focus on more important aspects of their business.
